Bolivia will always be special to Helping Hands because we got our start there. We have partnered for many years with Palabra de Vida, helping them build their ministry center and now helping them with youth camp each January and outreach throughout the year.
Ministry in Bolivia takes place in three distinct areas but how groups minister is similar no matter what the location. Around Palabra de Vida we assist with camp and general maintenance at the facility. We also venture out to the local garbage dump where a neighborhood has emerged. We do children's ministry there and in the city as well as in several local orphanages. It is also common to find Helping Hands teams doing medical clinics near the Palabra de Vida property.
Another aspect of ministry in Bolivia is mountain villages. Depending on the group and the trip some teams may venture out to the high mountains as a day trip or they may stay several nights. Though the location changes, ministry here is still similar to what is found in the city. Outreach, medical and children's ministry are all commonplace.
Despite its location in the Andes, Bolivia has a large area of jungle as well. It is much harder to get to but Helping Hands also serves in the jungle doing medical work with evangelism and discipleship.
No matter the location or the particular ministry in Bolivia our end goal is always the same: share Jesus. The practical help we share with children and adults serves as an avenue to share the Gospel. We cannot help everyone but we can bring lasting hope in Christ.
We can always use help ministering in Bolivia. You do not have to be a pastor, doctor or contractor to serve. We can always find a place for those willing to help.
